1/ In the UK & USA a large segment of the white working class are struggling in a post-industrial environment. But rather than ally with other struggling groups they've sided with a sociopathic elite faction which has duped them into believing that it will restore their status.

2/ What these white working class folk fail to grasp is that the elite they hope will restore their status cares nothing for them or national sovereignty, and will ruthlessly exploit them in its quest to hand ever more control to global markets and the global super-rich.

3/ This problem has been exacerbated because the liberal left has given the impression of failing to care about the sections of the working class who are struggling with the consequences of deindustrialisation.

4/ Of course it is much easier to persuade politically naive people that you share their concerns if you are willing to lie through your teeth. It is much harder if you are honestly seeking practical solutions to the very difficult problems stemming from deindustrialisation.
