Today on #TheDivision2 in hindsight... the Open World.

Many of us even to this day talk about how much we miss the snow and mood of TD1. The snow, the civilians, the towering emptiness... but TD2 did improve on the LZ in many ways.

Let's talk about it.
One of the most striking things about returning to TD1 is realizing how empty and wasted the open world area is. No control points, no activities, just red mobs and a few World Bosses.

TD2 presented us with various things to do such as control points, roaming patrols, and more.
I'd go so far as to argue that you can almost recreate a UG-like experience by running activities such as Level 4 control points (with potential NPC Rogues) and Elite activities.

While I wish there was more impact from these activities on the game world I'll take what I can get.
One complaint that often comes up is a lack of civilians but I'd argue that the militia patrols replace them well.

The patrols always have a task such as repairing, transporting supplies between CPs and even taking over Control Points.

Some civilians would still be cool though.
As for missed opportunities... I think hiding most Hunter encounters behind tedious puzzles was a bad move. We even have Hunter's that spy on us but cut and run when confronted.

Let us fight them. Especially after the events of Season 3... it's a wasted gameplay opportunity IMO.
I also think that not allowing us to rebuild The Castle is a mistake.

It could be as simple as promoting a NPC like Kelso to be the leader of the settlement.

It could be as complicated as allowing out agent to become the Settlement leader and even choose facilities to add.
At the end of the day I think The Division 2s open world is criminally under rated for both technical design reasons and aesthetic.

It's a barron, over grown, iconic, and undeniably beautiful mess of a world to play in... arguably much like reality.
Once again I'm really enjoying doing this series and looking back at this game that we all love.
