Many people think "you're crazy" and a "conspiracy theorist" and treat you like crap when you name a real conspiracy afoot right in your face. Because they would rather not know who they personally elected President, personally had faith in, than to know the truth.
This dynamic is exactly the same as the reaction of people who enable or excuse abuse: disbelieve and blame survivors so they don't have to face the truth about what they allowed to happen. Or what they missed.
