One thing I never understood as a kid was why no one questioned the sheer gall of western nations(who had industrialized using mercantilism & generous use of protectionist policy/monopolies via colonialism) to tell poor 3rd world nations how to be moralistic to become rich.
This turned into the sinister idea pushed by post-Bretton Woods organizations like the World Bank that laissez-faire economics and “pure competition” and “deregulated free market” is all that a country needs to industrialize.

Pretense that active govt policy was “communist”
An unspoken truth is that the west controls the entire world based on it’s whimsical notions of humanity, notions it changes every five years and it prevents nations from standing up for their people and culture.
3rd world, 2nd world nations lacking proper sewage systems in cities are expected to deregulate their markets, open their financial systems, end protectionism & never dare be “anti democratic” lest a death blow to your economy via sanctions is what you want.
We start the game with our hands tied behind our back by however much the American elite wants it to be. Rage inducing to think how much cultural & human genocide the Christian elite of America conducted to industrialize And now we receive lectures in human rights by them? I see
Let me make something clear. There is no country on Earth that has gotten into the rich man’s club following platonic advises of the IMF or World Bank to follow “pure free market” economics.

Singapore, Hong Kong et al don’t count. They’re barely more than city states.
This is all salvageable if you have a bureaucracy worth it’s name in your nation or an elite driven by more than getting by. It’s not salvageable when your bureaucracy considers itself a divine inheritor of the Colonial Raj and delights in pleasing elite sitting in NYC & London
