Thread: Mayor’s precept on Council tax to increase by £31.59 (9.5%). £15 to go on travel concessions for young people & over60s. Interesting as IF Mayorals go ahead this will be an issue but @MayorofLondon blaming Govt for these increases. His opponents will say it is his fault.
It also indicates the free 60-65 concession is part of SK’s plan - or surely he’d dump it now ? Also a Boris Johnson policy and some say out of line with rest of UK.
The precept increase is also necessary due to tfl/govt deal - govt won’t pay for concessions in London unavailable elsewhere & so for first time we get a link with local taxes & local transport provision.
And this is only a sticking plaster - the long-term plan for Tfl to be self-funded needs to be given to Govt by Monday. May see road-pricing etc in there.
And of course if congestion charge used for concessions it means other cuts to other schemes elsewhere.
But at the moment we don’t even have a confirmation the Mayorals are going ahead. TfL’s finances will as ever be front and centre !
And don’t forget we might get a £3.50 Greater London vehicle charge as part of the long-term plan.
