Yesterday’s reporting of Facebook’s in-house meeting after the events of Jan 6 in DC made it clear the executives remain uninterested in engaging in any kind of meaningful introspection and uncommitted to making their platforms safe. https://twitter.com/rmac18/status/1347258802316271618
The role of social media, inc Facebook, inc Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, in the polarization of society is clear. The potential for abuse of the data they gather is extremely problematic combined with access to healthcare data, for instance the entanglement of Palantir & NHS.
Peter Thiel on the board of both Facebook and Palantir.
Twitter and You Tube’s contribution to polarization and radicalization, from antivax to extremism is also extensive. I certainly do not exonerate them either.
For these reasons☝🏻 I will be taking an extended break while I consider carefully how to move forward myself. If you wish to get in touch please use email, your native phone text app or Signal (not WhatsApp). To follow my work pls use my website.
I will be investigating alternative means of sharing my work, perhaps a newsletter, blog or revisiting Flickr, or others. I should also say that the recent email sent by @vsco’s CEO was highly encouraging and the direct opposite to Instagram’s MO. My VSCO https://vs.co/D17EG0DqScb
