One of those questions that looks like a complex moral dilemma but really isn't. By next Friday we'll be vaccinating 200k a day. They are 1k PL footballers and key staff. It would "delay" the rest of the system by five minutes. https://twitter.com/henrymance/status/1347462536807985152
Few points in reply to common criticisms - "how dare you prioritise the rich and famous" - it's nothing to do with them being rich or famous it's because they give pleasure to millions of fans. It is a straighforward utilitarian cost/benefit analysis.
"What about X thing I enjoy?" - if that thing involves a tiny group of easily identifiable people who can be vaccinated together then I agree the same logic applies (the cast of Eastenders?). If not it doesn't.
"What about teachers (or some other important group of people"? Clearly teachers are more important but there are 1m people working in schools so there is a material and substantial cost to moving them to the front of the queue (might still be a good idea but it's not the same).
"It sends the wrong message" - it's not like lockdown compliance; the roll out is controlled by the NHS. If some people think it's unfair they can't act on that. (Also if this is the only argument it's an acknowledgement there's no rational reason).
