To understand how successful our vaccination campaigns are, we need to look beyond the total number of doses administered—because some countries started a month ago, and others only this week.

Here are a few takeaways from the current state of *daily* vaccination rates. ⤵️
For this we'll look at the number of daily doses administered per million people in each country. (Our daily rates are calculated as 7-day averages to get rid of sudden changes and noise in the data.)

First, here is a bar chart of all daily rates in our data as of this morning:
Israel and the UAE are obviously doing fantastically well so far—but let's hide them for now, to better compare countries that aren't going quite as fast.

We still see very large differences: Denmark is administering almost a hundred times more doses than Chile on a daily basis.
But to get even more nuance out of this data, we should look at the *evolution* of daily vaccinations: how is the pace changing over time?

Several countries are showing signs of great acceleration (Denmark, the US, Slovenia, Italy). Others are also accelerating but more slowly.
On the other hand, some countries seem to be slowing down their pace. But bear in mind that as always with COVID-19 data, we can see temporary trends that are really due to delays in reporting, and not to what actually unfolds in reality. It's still hard to say at this stage.
The biggest "success story" so far is obviously Israel, which is vaccinating at a vastly faster pace than any other country in the world.

But Denmark also stands out in the EU for having vaccinated more than twice as many people as any other member state since December 30.
Every day, 10,000 people are dying of COVID-19 globally. Reaching a faster speed of vaccination has the power to save hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of lives.

More and better reporting on how these two countries are doing so well would be a great service to the world.
