The events surrounding the National Guard at the Capitol Building should be of grave concern for everybody, but the actual events are being misreported so this will be a thread, that I'm going to pin.
Because DC doesn't have a Governor, Mayor Muriel Bowser had to request National Guard be deployed ahead of the rally. On New Years Eve, she requested 340 UNARMED National Guard to help with traffic management. She said 115 would be on duty at any one time, none wearing body armor
The designated commander of DC's guard is Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy. He approved the request immediately it was received. On January 4 Mayor Bowser gave a TV interview in which she stated the there will be no D.C. Guard members on the National Mall or at the U.S. Capitol
The National Park Service approved 3 requests for Pro-Trump protests. Organizers said there would be a maximum attendance of 15,000 at each event. The organizers knew the attendance would far exceed those numbers - the approvals were obtained fraudulently.
When the attack on the Capitol started Maryland Governor Hogan immediately mobilized state police and the National Guard. Hogan was unable to get authority to deploy from Secretary McCarthy or anybody else authorized to give it.
As they frantically tried to get authorization to deploy from DC, Hogan received a call from Maryland Rep. Steny Hoyer, the No. 2 House Democrat. Hogan said Hoyer told him that he was with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and New York Sen. Charles Schumer “in an undisclosed bunker ”
Hoyer told Hogan that US capitol police were overwhelmed and pleaded with him to send State Police and National Guard. Hoyer HAD to tell him he was awaiting authorization to deploy from DC.
One and a half hours after Hoyer's frantic call for help, almost two and a half hours after Governor Hogan had scrambled State Police and National Guard, Secretary of the Army Ryan McCarthy finally contacted Hogan and asked for help to be deployed as soon as possible.
The Maryland State Police and Armed National Guard were finally deployed nearly three hours after the attack began. By the time they arrived the attack on the Capitol Buildings was all but over and the perpetrators had time to leave the location.
So questions - why did the DC Mayor only ask for unarmed DC guard? Why did it take hours for Ryan McCarthy to contact Governor Hogan to authorize deployment even though Hogan's office had been trying non stop to contact him? It's not plausible.
Final questions. Why did DC police fail to deploy enough Police to cover the ridiculously underestimated 45,000 event attendees that had been authorized for the 3 events. Why did they make the decision to reduce the numbers of Officers assigned to protect the capitol building?
The number of Police deployed to protect the Capitol Building on January 6th was exactly the same number of Police assigned to it on any day it is in session. The whole of America knew about the Maga March since November.
For this attack on our Capitol Building to be so easy. someone needs to have made it impossible for the Chief of Police, the Mayor of DC & Secretary Ryan McCarthy, (all distinguished with impeccable records), to do their jobs. Only the Whitehouse can run that sort of interference
It is massively important for the future safety of our country that we don't allow the Trump show and Covid distract us from finding out HOW this happened. If we don't, next time it may not be domestic MAGA terrorists, it may be competent ones.
