2021 will be the year I'm not afraid to say I dislike a book for fear of offending those who did like it.

I know I'm definitely a people pleaser and whilst I won't pretend to like a book I didn't, I opt to not really say that I didn't like it, so I don't upset anyone.
I know so much time and effort goes into writing and publishing a book and I also hate that people would avoid a book just because I didn't like it. My opinion is just my own and I always hope people are also out there to form their own on any and all books.
So I guess I've always felt an immense sense of responsibility to be a people pleaser and make people happy and to me that includes not bashing on a book you may enjoy.

But. As a reviewer, I think I need to be more honest when I dislike a book/an aspect of one.
And that. Is Friday's revelation!
Off the back of this, I think 2020 was a year I felt very worried about saying the wrong thing and upsetting people in what was already a very strange and vulnerable time. But at the end of the day, we're all humans and our opinions are our own and we should own that truth.
Obviously, I'm talking about this in the sense of books and media etc and what I enjoy and the way I create my content. I plan to be more confident going forward in saying what I don't like as much as what I do!
Having a growing following means more pressure and eyes on me and sometimes that is a lot! But actually, I can't always please everyone and as long as I'm not being an outright dick, I hope you guys will continue to respect my content even if it's a different opinion to yours.
(see even writing this I get worried about offending people or people thinking by a different opinion I mean I'm suddenly going to start spouting far-right chants, which I think we all know I'm really, really not going to do! Really this is all about books 😂 just good old books)
