[TIMELINE] A violent mob of pro-Trump supporters stormed and occupied the U.S. Capitol for several hours, and most of it was documented in real-time.

Iā€™m piecing together some of the footage we've seen in order to understand how things unfolded on January 6th.
5:00AM: Trump supporters start to gather outside The Ellipse, a park south of theĀ White HouseĀ fence, for a rally that has been planned for weeks.

Gates only open at 7am.
Before 12PM EST: ā€œJust awesome patriots that are sick of the bullshit.ā€

Donald Trump JR. records a video of President Trump backstage before he takes the stage to address his supporters.

Laura Branigan's Gloria is blasting in the background.

Around 12PM EST: President Trump starts to address thousands of his supporters gathered at The Ellipse.

Members of the crowd start to peel away from the park and walk towards the Capitol, where Congress is gathering to hear challenges to the certification of the elections.

The crowd chants "Stop the Steal!" and "Whose house? Our house!" as they get closer to the Capitol. https://twitter.com/BGOnTheScene/status/1346882142580727808
12:50PM EST: A group of protesters reaches the outer barriers of the perimeter on the west side of the Capitolā€™s grounds.

The red arrow on the @Maxar satellite imagery points to the location of those barricades.

Hundreds of angry protesters start to charge towards the Capitol.

House Speaker Pelosi gavels in a joint session to certify the 2020 election.

President Trump is still speaking to supporters at The Ellipse. His speech will end around 1:10PM.

On the west side, an angry mob continues to move quickly up the steps. They charge and overpower police barriers, and scale scaffolding in place for the upcoming inauguration.

On the east side, a smaller group of protesters has started to gather.
"This shit is ours...I can't believe this is reality, we accomplished this shit together...this is fucking history."

Many film as they charge one of the last police barriers that keep them from accessing the building.

They start looking for a way in. https://twitter.com/thejaydenxander/status/1347061129755959300
1:58PM: On the east side, @marcusdipaola captures police being "completely overrun at one of the perimeter barricades."

His video originally shared on TikTok gets shared on Twitter without proper context.

From @marcusdipaola: "One guy made a move like he was going to punch the cops at the barricade, and there were just so many of the rioters, and less than half a dozen police, so I don't really blame the cops for abandoning their post."
2:04PM: Rep. @NormaJTorres tweets from inside the House chamber, she's aware that protesters are trying to break into the building. https://twitter.com/NormaJTorres/status/1346895456077377537
At 2:04 PM: @StephenVoss is on the west side and he later reports seeing "Capitol Police spraying pepper spray toward the crowd and the crowd was fighting back. One rioter also sprayed the police with pepper spray."
On the west side, protesters continue to charge towards the building. They manage to break windows and force open doors.

Red arrow pointing towards one of the entry points used to storm the building.

Full video of breach here:
Seems to be the same entry point used by @robertmooreitv and his crew to access the building.

I believe it's called Senate Carriage entrance, and the Senate chamber is to the left when you enter.

Around 2:15PM: Reporters inside the building begin to encounter angry mobs roaming the halls.

A group led by a man wearing a Q shirt chases a police officer up the stairs. They end up outside the Senate chamber in a standoff with police officers. https://twitter.com/igorbobic/status/1346911809274478594
This same scene is captured at a different angle by @stevennelson10. https://twitter.com/stevennelson10/status/1346899235179028483
Around 2:20PM: Another group of rioters is trying to break in through a different set of doors.

@jakesherman captures the furious mob shattering windows. https://twitter.com/JakeSherman/status/1346900255732887556
If I'm not mistaken, these are the Columbus Doors located on the east entrance of the Capitol building.

Around 2:21PM: Senate enters into recess, and President Pence leaves the Senate Chamber.

A few minutes later, a shelter in place is announced. https://twitter.com/nprpolitics/status/1346899648338866178
2:24PM: Rioters continue to force entry through the Columbus doors. Footage shows officers completely overpowered by the sheer number and force of this group. https://twitter.com/marcusdipaola/status/1346930471528243200
2:28PM: @cspan airs footage of protesters freely walking through Statuary hall.

Chaos continues to ensue. Rioters pose for photos, loot large objects, and ransack offices.

2:38PM: Trump tweets, "Please support our Capitol Police and Law Enforcement. They are truly on the side of our Country. Stay peaceful!"

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1346904110969315332
2:46PM: Protesters try to ram down the doors to the House Chamber while members are still in the chamber.

@MEPfuller captures footage of police officers with their guns drawn and aimed at the door. https://twitter.com/MEPFuller/status/1346906856581713922
Two photos of the standoff.

The one on the right was taken by @MEPFuller but could not find the source for the one on the left.

Seems like it was probably taken by one of the protesters.
Moments later, a single gunshot is heard inside the House chamber. @cbszak captured audio of that instant. https://twitter.com/cbszak/status/1346924751546175492
Around 2:46PM: Ashli Babbit, 35, is fatally shot by an unidentified officer.

She was trying to climb through a broken window of a barricaded doorway to get into the Speaker's lobby.

@MEPFuller reported that members were 20 feet away, still inside the chamber when she was shot
The full sequence of events shows a mob of violent protesters headed towards the Speaker's Lobby, they threaten and insult the three officers guarding the door until they abandon the post.

Individuals proceed to shatter the glass doors and windows.
Several officers arrive shortly after Babbit is shot, they administer first aid and try to evacuate her from the scene.

Violent onlookers continue to yell and film.

2:57PM EST: Protesters enter the Senate floor, they take a look around and pose for photos.

"Where's Pence, show yourself!" yells the now-infamous Qanon conspiracy theorist with the fur costume and horns.

( Photo from @frankthorp & @stevennelson10)
@jsrailton spotted that some individuals entered the Senate floor with temporary restraints. https://twitter.com/jsrailton/status/1347230377136562177
Meanwhile, lawmakers and reporters in the House chambers are rushed to a safe place.

2:59PM: @RepDavidTrone tweets photos of himself wearing an emergency gas mask. Says they have all been evacuated.
Lawmakers were actually given escape hoods. I had never seen these strange looking masks before today but here's a handy explainer from @USATODAY.

Around 3:13PM EST: As lawmakers are ushered to safety, the mob outside is still just as riotous.

Some individuals scale the stone wall to gain access to the stairs.

This man falls after being pushed by a police officer.

3:36PM EST: White House Press Secretary says the National Guard is on the way " along with other federal protective services." https://twitter.com/presssec/status/1346918582832168964
Around 6:00PM: What appears to be the National Guard arrives just as a new curfew starts to set in.

Has anyone seen earlier videos/images of National Guard presence? https://twitter.com/WilliamTurton/status/1346957347529244674
A U.S capitol officer died on Thursday after being injured in clashes with protesters.

He is the fifth person to die from Wednesday's violent attack in Washington.
