I go a lot to the extreme right wing edges of Twitter a lot. Sometimes I troll them, sometimes I talk to them. One thing's for sure, the Q-Trump nexus really fucked up their heads. 1/9
It really is a cult, requiring total devotion, and total adherence to future promises that will never come to be. If you question 'the plan' then you are turned upon instantly. It's a collective of very fragile people trying to insulate themselves from reality 2/9
The weird thing about it is there really is no plan, just a cabal that promises to reward the adherents lesser angels (racism, greed, religious superiority) and hold back the tide of progress. There's a bit of America-first type nationalism in there, but that's about it. 3/9
But it's almost as if history never existed before Trump with these guys. Did they ever vote before him? Did they ever lose? Why do they think the world will end if he's not in power? And why do they think he's such a paragon of virtue? It's an elaborate mass market mind game 4/9
At the end of the day its just a story, a story of regal favor being denied to a pure and moral people by an evil clandestine force. It's not well told, and it doesn't make sense, but it works. And that's what's so dangerous about it. 5/9
This isn't 50 people dropping their live savings into the account of some wierdo with a big beard. This is millions of people that are willing to drop everything in their lives to cosplay in a story that doesn't just not make sense, but is measurably destructive to everyone 6/9
There are enough bad smart people in the world to weaponize this against the polity, again and again. Only making our world intrinsically more fair (ironically one of the things the Trumpists are taught to hate most) 7/9
and by increasing people's ability to think critically, can we move past this bullshit. And that will require a lot of hard work the Trumpists will never see or appreciate... but we have to do it anyway if we want to be able to concentrate on the really important issues 8/9
we're facing, which is our overpopulation slowly destroying the natural world and the environment, and the capitalist waste and greed that weakens and divides us. 9/9
