I strongly recommend that everyone downloads Signal or Telegram. WhatsApp’s new privacy policy will share so much of your personal information, it is simply no longer safe to use https://mybroadband.co.za/news/internet/381758-the-data-that-whatsapp-collects-about-you.html
The wording of the new policy:
“We collect device and connection-specific information when you install, access, or use our Services. This includes information such as hardware model, operating system information, battery level, signal strength, app version (1)”
“We collect device and connection-specific information when you install, access, or use our Services. This includes information such as hardware model, operating system information, battery level, signal strength, app version (1)”
“browser info, mobile network, connection information (including phone number, mobile operator or ISP), language & time zone, IP address, device operations information & identifiers (including identifiers unique to Facebook Products associated with the same device or account).”
It has been long established that WhatsApp is not safe. Eg. when you create a group and share a invite link to the group, a url is created and indexed by Google. This makes you group chat discoverable and available to anyone who wants to join.

Y’all know I am not alarmist about these sort of things. I approach with a cool head, assess, read widely and decide. A reading of the new policy and analysis thereof is chilling.
Now to convince people in the WhatsApp groups I am in. Wish me luck
