It’s been a hell of a week America.

Take that uncertainty, anger, and frustration... and harness it for good.

Here’s how to make a difference in 2021...
1. Spend some time getting to know your neighbor. Ask them about life. About their opinions. Dive in on differences. Religion and politics on the table. Discuss. Real, raw conversation.
2. Volunteer at your local soup kitchen.

Not for the photo op or social media post... but to really connect with the less fortunate and hear from them directly.

The act of helping out and connecting with someone in need mind not just change their life... it could change yours
3. Make a list of people you’ve had disagreements with or held a grudge against

Look at the list and think about how you can reconcile

I’m sure you’ll have names of people you laugh about

It’s funny to look back on how petty we can be

Forgive
4. Decide to stop living in fear

We’re in the middle of one of the scariest moments in history according to every single report

Covid is real

The virus is real

Don’t let that dictate your ability to enjoy life and connect with others

Measure your risk, but live rationally
5. Be vulnerable

Open yourself up to looking like a fool

Ask questions when you don’t know... as we all learned in 5th grade... if you’re thinking it... probably a dozen others are

We need more courageous warriors to take leaps... why not you?
6. Take the time to love your parents

For those who have their parents still here on Earth... cherish that

Make this the year you go the extra mile to let Mom and Dad know that you’re appreciative for everything they’ve done in your life
7. Stop feuding with your siblings

We all do it

After all, these are the people who knew you at your worst, most vulnerable moments

You’re going to be seeing them for the rest of your life so focus on learning and taking the best from each other
8. Stop taking yourself so seriously

At the end of the day we all are just people trying to navigate through life

we all need to take the time to laugh at ourselves and realize how lucky we are to live in the most prosperous time in history
9. Find a new hobby

Something that really lights your soul on fire

When folks apply to @YALiberty I like to ask: “what makes you jump out of bed in the morning with excitement?”

We all should be trying to find what that passionate thing is that motivates us
10. Stop sensationalizing everything

Marketing agencies and news media do this with every thing we see

So we feel like if it isn’t THE BEST or MOST RADICAL or EXTREME blah blah blah... then it’s nothing

Wrong

Learn to enjoy the simple things in life
11. Learn to enjoy reading

You laugh, but I know so many people who did not read and the simple act of starting to read (not required by school) changed their life

Reading leads to curiosity

Curiosity leads to innovation

Read
12. Realize that you need to take care of yourself

Lean on others from time to time

But know that getting your personal affairs in order is pivotal

It’s not selfish

Your personal health and well being should be top priority before tackling the world’s problems
13. Don’t always be agreeable

Life’s to short to always figure out how to not be confrontational and water down every situation

I’m not talking about online trolls or keyboard warriors... but in real conversations try your best to open up

We learn from differing points
14. Tell someone close to you that you appreciate them

Tell them that they impact your life

Tell them that because of their friendship you’ve become a better person

It’s crazy how the smallest gestures can change someone’s day/week/life

And it’s free !
15. Break the habit

Stop feeding yourself the same bullshit excuse

This is the year to make it happen

There’s a reason you keep coming back to the same problem... but how cool would it be to totally reverse it this year?

Do it.
16. Find something that’ll make you shit your pants... and do it

this is a play on “do something that scares you”

But really... do it

It’s 2021 and everyone tells us the world is on fire... why not tackle the crazy things while everyone is too distracted to talk you out of it
17. Make a 5 year plan that’s irrational

Then ask yourself if the plan is irrational or...

If you’d just need to take irrational steps to accomplish the plan

Take the first step
18. You won’t change the world in your pajamas

What I’m trying to say is you can’t be comfortable

To really grab the world by the balls... you gotta put yourself in many uncomfortable positions

It’s awkward.

We naturally fight against this

This year, let’s embrace it
19. Pick up a piece of trash on the side of the road

No not for the Instagram or Facebook likes

Not not as some political statement about climate or wokeness

But pick it up because you appreciate your community

Because you respect your community and want to lead by example
20. Write a letter to an mentor from your childhood

Not an email

Not a text

Write them a damn handwritten letter

It’ll cut through the noise and remind them how much they changed your life
21. Either hang up your diploma or throw it out

If you’ve got that random item or article of clothing hanging around the house that you’ll “never use”

Throw it out, gift it, or burn it

No room for us to have tasks on our to do list for years and years

De-clutter !
22. Don’t read the comments section

That’s it. That’s the tweet.
23. Figure out where you want to travel to and go there before the end of the year

And I don’t mean go there as in “check it off your list”

Travel there

Explore

Meet the locals

Eat the local food

Live the culture

That’s what traveling is all about

Not Instagram pics
24. Stop being jealous

Really... what the hell are you jealous of?

They’ve got more than you? Work harder.

They’re in shape? Hit the gym

Nicer car? Start saving.

More skilled? Start practicing.

It’s on you. Not them.

Stop being jealous and work to be the best you.
25. Don’t let someone else define you

We live in an age of identity politics

People try to push us into boxes or on teams

It’s all baloney

We are individuals

We define ourselves

Don’t fall for the group mentality

Go out and create, innovate, and thrive
What else will you do in 2021 to lead a fulfilling life?

We are so damn lucky to live in a time where we can impact the lives around us and help those in need.

Take advantage of every opportunity 2021 gives you.
