why made in the am is the perfect one direction album: a thread to defend me
we begin with hey angel. the church bells in the beginning and the word painting literally make this album start in a perfect way. the driving guitar is so entertaining and makes for a soft rock vibe. the second verse almost being acapella and then the big drum drop? perfection.
drag me down: the way each portion of the verses get higher and then the bridge is lower vocally to give us a huge build up to the chorus is so classic. the big drum stops on the chorus make me ascend. effortless transitions back to verses. harry’s live solo murders me.
perfect: again it starts so soft and then the guitar and drums come in to make the album feel so cohesive. the chorus is literally so unique with the doubled guitar and big chord changes to drop out during “perfect for you.” and then build the second time?!? never boring. 10/10
infinity: the perfect transition song. has enough drum & guitar to fit perfectly, but gets us into the softer side of the album. the lyrics are amazing, and i literally love the bridge. the droned chords on the bottom of the chorus makes it sound so full and whimsical!! bye!!
end of the day: buffer. good energy, love the syncopated rhythms through the verse. big key change to the chorus is always a hit in building a song up, and they do it so well. the words are amazing? and the cymbals in it make it sound different than the rest. louis solo!!!!!!
if i could fly: literally so different from the rest and perfect to transition into the 2nd side of this album. the doubling in the piano makes it sound like a longing duet. the words are amazing. the boys voices SHINE. the harmonies are amazingly done. such a dynamic song
lwd : we get some acoustic guitar!! did someone say variety?? these boys did. the soft drum has this muted but full sound. so well thought out. the climb in the bridge and then the immediate stop after the chorus literally word paints jumping a cliff. perfection.
never enough: there is literally something for everyone’s taste on this album. this is such a fun song, and would be a perfect crowd pleaser in a concert. the chorus is so different than the verses and so exciting. the trumpets add so much energy. the high pitch vamp is amazing.
olivia: such clever word play. the little trumpets add just enough to make it feel magic!!! i love the rhythm in the chorus because it’s purposely suppose to mimic a waltz or spin. this bridge is amazing musically and poetically to transition to the last chorus. harmonies!
what a feeling: the vibe is so immaculate. it has this really deep bass that you don’t get a lot in radio music that makes it so groovy. the drums have a capped effect so it’s very gentle. the electric piano and guitar together build this scene so perfectly. love this song
love you goodbye: the strings at the beginning will forever be a good move on any artists point. fast singing gives it a raw and poetic feeling. bridge transitions into the chorus w/ acoustic guitar and echoing voice making it feel so dreamy. then the chorus has cymbals? perfect.
I want to write you a song: acoustic, lighthearted and good way to take the seriousness away from the other more produced tracks. easy for fans to sing and recreate which is what people want to do at the end of the day. lyrics are beautiful. it’s so fresh and clean.
history: a masterpiece. it’s a mix of everything we love about them. acoustic guitar to start, electric to build, soft drums to big bass drops. the claps the contract to the ending bridge that leads to the last chorus is perfect build. this is all their writing in one song.
temporary fix: what an energy piece. shows off their different styles perfect, and uses the most harsh cymbals of all the pieces to give that classic rockesk build. the syncopated “yeah”s make for a fun crowd engagement. Harry’s solo really shines here. Louis’ solo is so rock pls
walking in the wind: ties with that same clear and groovy feeling as what a feeling. the muted electric guitar ties them together perfectly for this album. the bridge to the chorus being doubled gives such a clean climb to the chorus which has a less drum than ever but so fresh!
wolves: the tambourine!!! also the clapping is set on easy to follow beats for ear pleasing and they hit those beats in their verses making it fun to sing. this song is so obviously a dancing song and it was its purpose. it’s chorus heavy meaning it gets stuck in your head easy!
A.M. encompasses the perfect end of an album. low for them all, soft guitar and easy for anyone to play. this is a song for literally everyone which should be the point for any album. little fluff, just focuses on the words and melody. easy melody to follow so anyone can sing it!
ultimately. this is the best album because of a couple of reasons.

•variety
•flow from song to song
•lyrics
•use of instruments
•connection to audience
•cohesive album
•feels like the encompassing of all their styles
