Speaking of Pratt, I watched Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 last night (so good) and MAN do I wish I could chat with Disney about ILM. I know they do good stuff, but they aren’t the frontrunner for de-aging tech, and they need to let Lola utilize it for Star Wars going forward.
What they’ve done with the Marvel flicks is INCREDIBLE, especially with Kurt Russell in GotG V2. The biggest part is the mouth when he speaks. You gotta use the actual actor for this to work, which is why Rogue One’s Tarkin & Leia aren’t 100%.

I bring this up now because of (SPOILERS) the season finale of The Mandalorian. Luke Skywalker seemed decent... except the second he opened his mouth to speak. They had a body double and CG’d a face on, and that results in a weird mouth movement.
If Mark is alive, maybe have him on set if Luke shows up next? The way Lola does it so well is because they shoot multiple passes, with both the actor and then a younger double, like with Kurt or my favorite: Michael Douglas in Ant-Man.
But they’ve also done it the other way too! The original actor on set, Hayley Atwell, and then an older actress in the Rig (face capture off set), and then blending because the prosthetics didn’t look right. Why does it work? ORIGINAL ACTRESS’ MOUTH.
I get that it’s a TV budget, but since Marvel and Star Wars are all under the same umbrella... can we please utilize the same resources? Can we please let @weta_digital and @lolavfx play in the Star Wars sandbox, @disney? PLEASEEE? I know it can look amazing!
Here is a fun article regarding Kurt Russel’s de-aging that I read last night and had me thinking of this! (If there’s anything I geek about more in regards to movies, it’s CG lol) https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/guardians-galaxy-vol-2-vfx-spotlight-de-aging-kurt-russell-gracefully-221943027.html
