One of my favorite musicals, Cole Porter's Something for the Boys, opened Jan 7, 1943. Ethel Merman starred. There was no cast album, but in the early 70s, an album appeared (on red vinyl!) of radio broadcast of Merman & Co doing several songs & dialogue.
- This photo shows Betty Bruce & her dance partner, a 17 year kid, Bill Callahan. Callahan, in his 1st show, proved to be a dance sensation. He went on to several Broadway shows & some TV, then married well & became a businessman in the 1960s, working for his father-in-law...
- while cheating on "Dad's" daughter. Callahan & his girlfriend embezzled money from his in-laws in 1981, and disappeared to Mexico. They reappeared late in Chicago, but two days later their bodies were discovered in a ditch. Looked like his wife & her daddy had gotten revenge...
- Anyway, the show is great fun. I've done it three times, and the second even had a cast CD, though it was dual piano only. Luckily, @PSClassics came out with a fully orchestrated CD a year or so ago, & it's terrific. The score is wonderful- trust me, you'll love it!
