For my white friends/followers, I get y'all are freaked out/terrified/feel hopeless about what happened at the Capitol yesterday. Those feelings are legit. Also, welcome to the show.
For a lot of us in the POC community what happened was wild, but not remotely unexpected. Nor was it that scary. It was just further confirmation of the white supremacy we deal with every day. We're more tired than surprised at this point.
The last four years has been a lot of us telling you this was gonna happen. And personally, consistently, white friends acting like I was overreacting, being sensationalist, paranoid, etc. In meantime we delivered you the White House and Senate for people we don't even like much
Y'all don't live with these dangers sitting in your brain DAILY. Of course you didn't think this could happen. So your feelings are valid, I'm not trying to dismiss them. Sit with them, process them, grieve, whatever.
When you're done doing that, I'm just asking you to BELIEVE US next time. Listen to us, believe us and maybe y'all won't have to deal with this again.
