Ok, real talk about the current status of the Mets. This team is already really good. Lindor and Carrasco add more to the payroll than I think people realize ($34M) but without big, long term commitments they still have the flexibility to land a Springer-type. Or...
... they can go another route and land another starter, pushing Peterson to Triple-A. There are a few out there who fit the bill and with Lugo in the 'pen they won't need Hand.
The Mets would be in good shape with a Quintana, Paxton, Taijuan Walker or even risk it w/ Kluber.

What the Mets really need most is another reliable starter, trading upside for reliability (to the extent that's even a thing you can buy in the FA SP market).
That makes a guy like Quintana a great fit even if the $/WAR tilts toward a Kluber, Richards, or Arrieta.

The Mets payroll before a pitcher is somewhere in the neighborhood of $180-185M after arbitration awards, so they have $25-30M before the luxury tax. The pitchers mentioned won't cost much, so they can sign Springer (backload) or YOLO into another one-year rental.

All offseason I have been Bauer > Springer because I thought he better addressed the Mets needs. Now? With the addition of Carrasco, what the Mets need is a little depth in the rotation and (if we are dreaming) a minor improvement to defensive alignment.
This could take the form of a real 3B (displacing Davis) or a real CF (displacing Smith from LF).
Both players, Davis and Smith, are valuable trade chips, and I expect that Jared Porter and the gang are figuring out how to land someone (Kris Bryant?).

If the Mets can add Quintana and Bradley, I'm in heaven. Or Bryant and Paxton. Or Springer and Sonny Gray. It won't take much.
One reliable arm and one guy who can truly play 3B or CF and this team is my favorite to win the NL. https://twitter.com/mikemayerMMO/status/1347259689315295233
