A few things to highlight:

"The question is what happens now. The events may have served as an awfully belated wake-up call for some who – out of principle or political expediency – finally urged President Trump to end his resistance to a peaceful transfer of power."
3/

"Trump, under pressure, later issued a statement in which he reiterated that he “totally disagreed with the outcome of the election” but vowed that “there will be an orderly transition” on 1/20, when Biden is to be sworn into office. That may not be wholly reassuring."

Key steps in the immediate aftermath of where we are:

- LE should indicate they will prosecute those for whom there is sufficient evidence of wrongdoing

- Congressional investigation into the security situation at the Capitol.
5/

We also need to acknowledge the impact on the U.S.'s global standing:

"Foreign ldrs who expressed shock about the 1/6 events should continue to do so; the U.S. political elite needs to know how alarming & potentially destabilising its dysfunctionality appears globally."
6/

Finally, as a country the U.S. needs to acknowledge what this means

U.S. leaders & citizens will need to reconcile the reality that the tensions that brought the country to the lip of the volcano where it is are not going to evaporate with the transition of power on 1/20."
7/END

Much will need to be done to renew American democracy and its institutions. That work begins immediately, and there are no easy answers - only rolling up sleeves and getting to work.
