I help organize the @chiditarod, & today I had the dubious responsibility as checkpoint lead to write the bars we've partnered with, some for decades, and tell them that we would not be swinging by this year. It's not the end of the world, but this was heartbreaking for me. A
.

Let me tell you about the institutions we partner with. They are wonderful bars and restaurants who I'm sure are hurting during all this. If you can swing by for some takeout or an outdoor drink, please support these wonderful institutions. Our small institutions make #Chicago.
First, please keep your hearts Phyllis' Musical Inn. It is a humble hole in the wall in a neighborhood of yuppies and gentrification. Want to just be yourself? Go check out Phyllis'. It's the best. https://www.yelp.com/biz/phyllis-musical-inn-chicago
For the last 9 years, I've been HQed during the race at @RootsPizza. They have always treated me with kindness and respect, and they make a solid pizza and serve great drinks. They're good peeps, and if you need a quick pie, you should be ordering from them as often as possible.
@FiveStarBar's management is amazing people I get to chat with every year. The bar is currently taking a break, but you should check out this bar when they return. The checkpoint crew are fiercely loyal to this place, and it's because its such a charming spot to grab a beer.
@OutputLounge is still doing ordering for takeout, and you should check them out if you're in the area. I was invited to Output well before they become a checkpoint, and I've always had a great time there. I'm a vegan, but I hear their nachos and wings are amazing.
Last but not least, please go visit @IrishNobleman. We've only been partnered with them for a year, but I will die on this hill: they're some of the warmest people and run one of the coziest bars. They've had a rough year, and kept their spirits up. Please go check them out.
Please go visit these great institutions, and if you're in the neighborhood, please make sure you're keeping them going and enjoying their great food and friendly drinks. I want to welcome racers to each of them in 2022, so please help them thrive till we can be together again!!!
Stay safe, wear masks, socially distant, wash your hands, and support local establishments whenever you can and however you're comfortable.
