ed twt would you eat this? — jewish food edition
sweet lokshen kugel— layered pasta dish with cream cheese and raisin filling topped with sweetened crushed cereal
challah- braided bread. can be made plain, cinnamon raisin, poppy seed, or other flavors. challah is eaten every shabbat and round challah is eaten at rosh hashanah (the new year)
latkes- fried potato pancakes. typically served with sour cream or applesauce (the debate over which is the right topping is an intense one). typically eaten on hannukah.
sufganiyot- a mix between a beignet and a jelly filled doughnut. it’s eaten during hannukah when fried foods are traditional.
hamantaschen- a petty cookie meant to resemble the ears/hat of haman a man who tried to kill all the Jews. it has fruit or chocolate fillings and is eaten on purim.
matzah brei- savory fried matzah and egg. a popular meal during passover because it is a kosher option.
there are so many other jewish dishes but that’s all i’m gonna list. and to be honest i don’t like/wouldn’t eat a number of these so feel free to be honest it won’t offend.
ALSO i just think it’s important to note that i am an ashkenazi jew (meaning i am of eastern european descent) and so this list skews towards that culture and leaves out a lot of wonderful sephardic & mizrahi dishes that i am less familiar with but should also be appreciated
