For those unfamiliar with the BSD license vs GPL license debate, let me spell out one of the benefits you get with BSD that you don't get with GPL ... [thread]

Trust me, you're going to like this ...
Since the BSD license allows someone, say, Nintendo, Sony, Apple, or whoever to take your code, compile it, and sell the compiled code for a profit without giving you a single penny other than crediting you, you may be tempted to think this is a losing proposition, but wait ...
When a company does this, you can point to their product and prove that your work helped develop their product.

Oh, but it gets *much* better than that ...
You see, since the company will never release the source code to said product, nobody will ever know what percentage of the product you helped me possible.

1%
100%

It's anybodies guess. You may well be responsible for the entire product coming to life. No one will know.
Even better, nobody will know that the company used your old version 1.0 code that you have since moved-on from and are quite honestly embarrassed that you ever wrote.
Anytime you want to work somewhere, these facts work in your favor.

GPL? Please! I don't want people knowing that product X from huge company Y used old version Z of my code -- for good reasons.

Not-least-of-all, that I like to continue improving my codes to get better
