Doing participatory work online is a challenge and #digitalexclusion remains a concern, but we've been able to bring together a diverse group more easily than all having to travel to the same place. For my @DoctoralOTUK focus I want to share some of our learning so far...
First, I must mention the paper by @NikkiDanielsOT ( #DoctoralOTUK admin) and others, which was a great help and influence on our approach to using Zoom (you may not have realised on publication how timely this paper would be!) https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/1609406919885786
See @AbilityNet for some excellent resources on hosting accessible online meetings https://abilitynet.org.uk/news-blogs/how-host-accessible-online-meeting #DoctoralOTUK
Thanks to @Dr_LoucaMai for compiling this incredibly useful thread of resources relating to #DigitalEngagement #OnlineEngagement #PublicInvolvement #InclusiveResearch https://twitter.com/Dr_LoucaMai/status/1247468099311407107
We still have a way to go, but a few things we've learned so far:
1) Check access + tech needs with each person first
2) Keep the group small
3) Build in social time
4) Make use of breakout rooms; record feedback on screen
5) It isn't free! Consider data usage as well as devices
