How many staff? So, their wages, benefits, employment taxes, workers compensation taxes, employer CPP co-taxes, etc., etc., etc.

What do you think that they pay for rent? Utilities? Insurance?

Not to mention upfront costs like ...

office furniture, examining tables, blood pressure gear, etc., etc., etc.

Office equipment and consumables, like computer gear, which is always breaking down, so computer support, printers (ditto), printer paper, FAX machine, internet service (at commercial rates!), etc.

Use your imagination to add more costs. Then remember all of the time that your doctor will spend doing paperwork _ updating your file, (trying to) contact specialists for referral, what no doubt must be a mountain of Gummint™ forms, etc., etc. _ all uncompensated directly.

Then realize that all of those expenses come from what you might think is a pretty generous piece of Gummint™ change for seeing people like you. Then wonder, as I did, how many patients my family doctor must see before she starts paying herself. ...

Of course, with no pension, no benefits, no vacation time.

Sometimes, I think that we don't deserve our family doctors.
