The ability of Evangelicals and Evangelical leaders to make themselves apolitical when it suits them is such an annoying trick, and watching citizens/journalists/leaders fall for it EVERY TIME, is getting tiring. I get it though, if you weren't a part of it, it's hard to notice. https://twitter.com/C_Stroop/status/1347266155245756418
I'm watching the Evangelicals I know falling back into familiar patterns. "Prayers for peace" are being asked for. Pastors are condemning "All sides" for allowing America to get to this point. They are "crying for the soul of America."
None of the Evangelicals I know, NONE OF THEM have said anything about the Christian flags being flown, the Jesus banners, the crosses that were erected at the Capitol. They are all programmed to ignore that and pretend it's not "their Christianity."
Evangelicals are incapable of realizing that they have created divided allegiance. Pledge to U.S. flag, Pledge to the Christian Flag, Pledge to the Bible. They have created an image of America that involves all three, and if something doesn't fit for all three, it's not American.
To Evangelicals, Democrats and Biden don't pledge allegiance to all three symbols, so they aren't really American, so they cast their lots with Trump and believe what is happening right now is not American, so their followers descended on Washington to protect "their America."
And when those preachers, Bible moms, ushers, elders and whatnot saw that there was violence, they rushed back into their little Christian shells and prayed for peace from the monster they created, and they'll tell you EVERY TIME "We didn't teach them to do this."
They'll say they are "shocked" or "disgusted" that people used violence to protest a "stolen election." Notice they'll still call it stolen. They will never take responsibility for raising "Christian Soldiers" and sending them off to war. That's how Evangelicals roll.
