When y’all said it was impossible for Trump to attempt a coup or succeed bc the “Joint Chiefs” were against them, I told y’all that historically, tyrants don’t need all the defense forces on their side. Pretty sure I specifically told y’all that he could succeed with police
Here’s the thing. During times like this, some of y’all (centrist and leftists and conservatives, this idea has no political affiliation) are obsessed with seeing white people as incompetent country bumpkins and white cops as doughnut-eating, clueless people.
They are not. Across states, police are a heavily militarized force. They are an extremely large army.
Do I think he’ll succeed? I wouldn’t bet my life on it. Is it impossible? Fuck no! The police proved today that in a coup, they would not only be passive onlookers but they would actively participate.
BEFORE Trump was elected, the FBI itself said the police force had been infiltrated by white supremacists. Y’all are very obsessed with getting retweets and clicks with “this has always been America” takes (which are mostly correct!) that you fail to understand the significance
Infiltration means these Nazis have actively been working against the status quo of the state, which was already dystopian (y’all are right about that)

But people who want things to get WORSE pose a unique threat most of us have never experienced.
What we are dealing with is not people who want things to go back to what they were (Jim Crow, for example)

These are people who want something much worse And much more widespread
It’s not selfish or stupid to not want things to get worse. It’s just not!
Secondly, this take is bizarre bc ok, America has always been bad. But we are not currently enslaved! We are not currently living in the worst of America. Other countries are living in the worst version of America bc we destroyed their people, that’s true. But chances are,
*you* are not living in that world. *You* do not know what the worst of America feels like. So maybe don’t get on here and be a condescending asshole towards people who are afraid. Bc you don’t know what the worst of America feels like either and you don’t want to find out
And this attitude is especially weird coming from non-Jewish white people bc you *especially* do not know what the worst of America feels like! You learned about it 4-6 years ago in a communist group chat, fuck you
Also, do you think things will get better or worse for the other countries we’ve destroyed under a dictatorship?

Have you lost it?

Do you think Afghanistan and Palestine are going to get *better* under an American dictatorship?
So when people say “I would prefer my country not turn into Nazi Germany” and you respond with derision, asking them if they’ve ever heard of what we’ve done in the Middle East, that’s not the gotcha you think it is
Bc our country will do worse to other countries under a dictatorship. They will not be kínder or more benevolent! Trump will never free Palestine if he becomes a dictator, he will obliterate it
The fears that people have are natural and valid and rooted in actual things they have happened and may happen. They are extremely human and by mocking us and telling us we should not be afraid, you are mocking us for being human. You are mocking us for the human part
Of our brains that does not want to be genocided. This is how we were designed as creatures.
Yes. We all collectively stood by as this country became what it was. It was mostly white people but not just them. Do you know how many Black and Latinx folks join the police force and the military and are proud of it? A lot. Including my own family.
But telling people they’re wild for being concerned about their own lives is useless bc that is just how humans are built. That poem “first they came for...” is not just an admonishment but a descriptor of how HUMANS have always reacted to chaos
But at some point, mocking people or scolding them for being afraid for their lives and their children’s lives loses its value. We are nearing (if not already at) that point
And regardless of what Trump does, we are at a worse place than before. Things are going to get worse. Because NOW, an entire segment of our population knows they have a *chance* of overthrowing a government and putting a tyrant in charge for 38 years or whatever they want
This will happen again. If not Trump, then someone else. And the America that may result if they achieve all of their goals will be a different place than the vast majority of us have ever known. EVER.
And don’t forget that many of you are also the people who, mere months ago, told us that this day would never happen and are now mocking us for being upset that it happened? Did y’all forget? Not I! I remember when y’all teased people for thinking his supporters would try this
And again, this behavior extended across the political spectrum. I mostly heard it from leftists bc that makes up the bulk of the people i’m close to which is why I have the most emotional reaction to that. But it was also liberals banging on about the “constitution”
Y’all find different ways to do the same useless And unhelpful shit. Y’all use different idols to justify it. For the liberals, It’s these fuckers called the “founding fathers” for the leftists, it’s this repetitive quoting of Marx and Lenin and sometimes STALIN (?!?)
You are not so different from the people you have such derision for, And I’m talking to all of y’all
Im conclusion, we have all become desensitized to Trump’s behavior which serves him and only him. And the same people who think they know best have aided in desensitizing the portion of the population best suited to do something, turning nihilism absurdity into praxis
