To make an ice stupa, a basic structure is first constructed using tree branches and then covered with fish nets. Water is then sprayed from above through a vertical pipe, creating the stupa as the droplets descend and touch the structure and freeze

Still getting questions on how these work, so: underground pipe collects water from melting glacier in late summer/autumn (which would otherwise be wasted)— water stored as stupa stays frozen throughout winter— starts melting in the springtime, when the fields need watering
