Quick little Saddiq Bey thread before I start on my next project, come watch!
Hayes is a good playmaker, and he hunts assists - Bey in the corner is an easy choice over a rim-running Plumdawg, whatever Grant might do with it or blowing by Theis. Bey fills his lanes and sets his feet. Cash.
Watch as Bey scans Thompson on this high-low action. Bey is (admittedly) too far away from Brown, but sees Jackson enter jail with Theis. TT doesn’t see Brown open and he doesn’t see Bey eyeing down this action the whole time. We're going the other way, folks. User Pick.
This play is equally bad on Tatum as it is good on Bey. Tagging the roller = good. Leaving Brown (the subject of my next video) open? Not good, bub. Bey missed the layup because he does that, but he's getting to the cup with some ease in the halfcourt... it'll come.
Bey belongs in the NBA, man. Both stats and the eye test prove it. He's been the Pistons' best rookie without question. He shrugs Brown off when he tries to gamble, resets, and makes him pay for going under. The poise. You love to see it.
The elephant in the room: Saddiq Bey is shooting 15% on twos. He's just not making them. On a possession like this, where none of his teammates are really open, this is the right shot. It just seems unlikely he continues to be THIS bad from two when you watch the shots he gets.
Lastly, Bey finds himself in all of the Pistons' best three man lineups. Through 7 games, Detroit is at their best when Bey, Grant, and Plumdawg are out there together. The stats support the eye test. Bey is someone to pay attention to with a close eye moving forward.
