The racial anger gap =/= Black ppl getting less angry; it’s Black ppl knowing they can’t exercise their anger the way White folks do. The smoldering fire in the chest of every Black person yesterday, knowing we risk death for marching, BBQing, napping, etc. That’s the anger gap.
White anger burns bright & hot w/ a fraction of the scrutiny or pushback that Black discomfort (let alone anger) gets. After my OpEd White ppl told me BLM protesters were threats but armed anti-maskers were fulfilling their American duty https://twitter.com/Davin_Phoenix/status/1269298894929719296?s=20
I figure these ppl see the man sitting smugly w/ his feet on Nancy Pelosi’s desk & conjure up images of colonists throwing tea into the Boston harbor. In fact the better comparison is White folks dressed in their Sunday best smiling in front of a Black body hanging from a tree.
The persistence of racialized violence in the U.S. is aided & abetted by the racialization of violence itself. Black ppl’s existence, pain, indignation is labeled as violence & met w/ violence. While we watch White ppl storm the capital & get every benefit of the doubt
