I hope it's not lost on you that Alberta's problems are a bunch of people from Ontario arguing if a few international investors get to exploit it or not.
The right is Alberta's boreal forest. The left is what it looks like when they strip it for the bitumen.

The Alberta doctor that did complain about a potential link to the health issues and the oilsands was abruptly fired. Apparently his services were no longer needed in a big rush.
Funny how that works.
