In the backdrop of what is happening in our country, attending a virtual forum on future of higher ed ed and "low density campuses"
The big question only gets bigger and bolder:

how does higher ed break down rampant inequality (when historically it has only propagated it)

#FTTE
As the world / market forces require higher education to redefine itself, what is the point of higher education? What role does it play in our society and civilization? What role do we WANT it to play? #FTTE
I believe teaching is inherently a political act.
I'm starting to think working in health care is similar.
Is voluntary participating in EDUCATION a political act? #FTTE
Almost half of higher ed students in the US are in community colleges but you'd never know it from the outsized role the ivy league (and those that think of themselves as ivy adjacent) take up in our culture. #FTTE
How can higher ed contribute to the dismantling inequality when our public higher ed is defunded? When attitudes toward school and science are in decline? When college is seen as expensive job training? When attending a school is about "brand"?

#FTTE
Not saying higher ed can't be an engine for equality / justice and creating an informed and engaged populace, but what we are doing now is clearly insufficient for the world we all live in
#FTTE
. @joshmkim says money is the answer, we are NOT funding public higher ed (where the majority our learners are educated) #FTTE
It's real hard people. School is expensive. Too expensive. And doing more costs more. I'd like to see that cost NOT be pushed on to students.
Also college sports is Evil.

And with that I have to go to my next meeting!
