there’s something about yesterday i can’t shake — maybe it’s being from DC, working on the mall/around the capitol for most of hs/college or just general anxiety but
when i was a fellow at the library of congress, i went through TSA-level security every morning coming into work. fine. used to that. most places in DC have it. public access points to knowledge are important and we don’t want another Alexandria
capitol police stationed at each employee exit. capitol police stationed at every corner on my walk to the metro. barricades for unexplained reasons. fine okay. federal ground
but if i couldn’t leave work because i didn’t check out a book properly — and yet the barricades yesterday come down with such ease. idk man, doesn’t add up. those grounds are a fortress. it couldn’t have been that easy.
anyway. hard to witness history sometimes, harder when it’s a space so familiar
