Let’s watch a little second half Jazz/Knicks
This has been in my notes for a few games now but Elfrid Payton has done a*great* job of getting in the paint. Never know what might happen when he does but gets there. Catches Utah sleeping in transition here
(side note transition defense league wide has not been great. Jazz had three guys who could have helped and they didn’t)
One thing I’m keeping an eye on is how they handle teams doubling Randle. He’s showing steps to pass out but can they make defenses pay? Mismatch in transition, Jazz double, ball swung to Payton who puts up a contested layup.
Knicks defense is improved under Thibs and watch this little play from RJ Barrett. Gets over the screen but watch his left hand stay high to protect vs skip. Gets a piece on the pass, weakside is in and can steal it.
The Jazz get themselves stuck in the mud too much offensively. Weird spurts of either playing stagnant or going too quick.
This is a good set from the Jazz that got sniffed out by the Knicks. These are the awareness plays you want to see from Mitchell Robinson. Play is a lob for Mitchell but Robinson (and Randle) both jump it.
Jazz go zone here and this a good example of the steps Randle is taking passing wise. At the end attacks Mitchell, Gobert helps, Randle skips to the wing for an open 3.
Nice patience from Donovan Mitchell here in pick and roll. Knicks have three defenders in front, keeps the guard on his back, forces the defense to help and skips to the corner.
Solid defense from Mitchell Robinson. In a drop with Mitchell coming off. At top of the key to contest but slides with Mitchell. No lunge or overcommit, keeps him in front and contests once he goes up. Key to drop, contain, protect and contest.
