Sterling is the most overrated player itl, while he's good positionally, to ever place him close to world class is a huge mistake.
1. He benefits from a system and barely any of his own individual brilliance. Most of his goals have been tap ins from guardiola football. https://twitter.com/delstroyer_/status/1347226829740978177
2. His finishing is still really poor despite the ease of his positions often worked by his very good positional awareness. If you look at his XG over the years it isn't pretty. Psychologically he looks the most underconfident supposedly "world class" player that I've ever seen.
3. His dribbling is often directionless and he often shys away from 1 v 1 situations as he doesn't have the dribbling and close control to beat a man.
4. He is awful in big games and rarely shines with moments of brilliance to win the game and instead often looks for dives as he gets pocketed by fullbacks quite often. His talent may be there but his mentality is awful in front of goal.
5. What he is good at:
Passing in terms of link up
Occasionally cutting in side with a nice curled finish
Positioning
However these assets alone aren't enough to make him WC. Rashford, Son and Mané are all clear of him in the PL alone.
