Everything about this situation would be so much more clear if we just referred to Trump supporters as fascists.
Terrorists don’t try to overturn the government.

Anarchists don’t support an elected official.

Criminals don’t usually have political goals.

We should be clear with our language. It helps guide our action.
Maybe I’m so stuck on using the word “fascism” because I am struck by the rise of antisemitism as a core part of white nationalism.

Neo-Nazi imagery and language abounds in the Trump movement. Let’s just call it what it is: a fascist movement.
Calling it fascism also helps clarify the needed actions:

“Should we allow the fascist leader to stay in office?”

“Should we welcome the fascist movement into our political party?”

“Should we let the former fascist officials on our corporate board?”
Yesterday’s events at the capital weren’t the actions of a lawless mob.

They were the calculated political acts of a fascist movement intent on destroying democracy in America.

They must be responded to as such, or the movement will continue to grow.
Fascism also cements the link between the elected leaders and street gangs. They share a political project; overturning democracy and instantiating white supremacist rule.

Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley aid and abet the fascist movement.
Trump is orchestrating a fascist coup against democracy.

It’s not hyperbole to say it.
