to hear a lot of Viet people say flying the 3-stripe flag is still important because it's their heritage is interesting bc I know many of them would not approve of flying the confederate flag and they are using the same argument....
Two things can be true. We can empathize with our parents and understand their loss of homeland while diavowing that flag and what it stands for.
I think I want to have a conversation with the younger generation in my family soon about this. To unpack these feelings. I want them to grow up with a better understanding of history as well.
