The events that occurred yesterday in Washington D.C. have taken many people by surprise.
For Black, Indigenous, and migrant people in this settler state, seeing white supremacist and fascist rage be allowed to storm the Capitol is no surprise. It is not spectacular or shocking.
We have always been forced to live in fear of settler rage and retaliation, for perceived “wrongs”, throughout the 500+ years of Turtle Island's colonization.
The fact that settler mobs were allowed to enact violence over election results, relatively unharmed, when Black & Indigenous protestors have paid dearly, sometimes with their lives, in the defense of environmental and racial justice is just another example of the ways
that white rage is protected at the expense of people of color.
The end of the Trump presidency will not be the end of the settler colonial legacy of violence, nor was it the beginning. It is simply more proof that the fight for abolition and liberation must proceed, and that we must band together in the fight to realize a better world.
The Red Nation urges all those who can envision this new world to organize locally in order to build revolutionary struggle. Solidarity forever.
