The key thing is that people really need to see the iterative, both-sides element in a political doom spiral without lapsing into a whataboutism that just constantly excuses their own side. (Good luck.)
To add: I'm not endorsing the essay's argument; I'm citing it to suggest that everyone involved in these debates need to be aware of scenarios where they themselves, through reasonable-seeming moves in an escalating period of political combat, end up contributing to a disaster.
