Some additional details, another source told me a JSOC element from Bragg prepositioned yesterday closer to the capital just in case they were needed+3-5 man advisory teams to the Pentagon.
Cabinet, W. and Limbaugh all had a "long hard talk with Trump yesterday.
Former secret service agent Bill Gage: There are dozens of tunnels beneath the Capital. They are not secret, but are secure and dump out onto various locations around the Capital complex. We used them all the time during NSSEs. I am not sure why those were not used.
The members could have been evacuated to various points along the Mall. My guess is that no one wanted to make that call and be embarrassed (translation: career over) if it turned out to be unnecessary.
The pictures of the Capital Police plainclothes guys with their guns drawn is a little disturbing. They operate under standard police use of force protocols, i.e., reasonable force etc.. There is no "deadly force" authorized anywhere in the Capital
(or the White House for that matter). The only place I ever saw "deadly force authorized" was at the hanger where AF1 is kept at JBA. It is painted on the runway and all around the hanger. Not sure if those guys were prepared to shoot the protestors for what amounted to the
lowly crime of trespassing or destroying federal property.
