You know, there's been this whole reaction on the right to terms like "white privilege" and "male privilege," and of course, a whole "come now, let's understand them" industry explaining that they don't FEEL privileged & so therefore it's counterproductive to tell them they are.
But I don't think it stung because it didn't feel true to them, but because it hit a little too close to home.

Because they are spoiled brats.

And yeah, that's not what we always mean by privilege, but in this case it's true.
They're told they're special — literally, Trump said they were special in his "address" yesterday — that this is THEIR country, that they are the "salt of the earth," that we all need to understand their pain. They are coddled, constantly, and not just by their own side.
I mention this a lot, but in my retail days I once had to sit with a woman for an entire hour while she cried about her friend getting a Birkin before she did even though she was on the list longer.

She was legitimately in pain, no question. She was sincerely devastated.
And this is the kind of "pain" they are in. It's real "pain" — but it's the kind of pain experienced by spoiled brats who don't realize that their problems are stupid and very small compared to pretty much everyone else's.
It is the kind of pain experienced by people who think they are the center of the universe and have never been disabused of this notion.
