As I sat in the office of an elected official in our federal government yesterday, I watched in horror as my counterparts on Capitol Hill were being locked in their offices as chaos and terror violated a sacred home to democracy. #Thread 
If that had happened here, it would have been me barricading my office & listening to the desecration of the place I believe is the cornerstone to building a better country.

Many of us reassure ourselves by saying that “won’t happen here” or “Canadians aren’t like that.” But, as staffers, we read the emails and get the phone calls of people threatening, harassing, & berating politicians.
