It is amazing to see much of the right of center press, which has at best served to legitimize Trump's lawlessness, and at worst, promoted it--now shocked, SHOCKED I tell you at the behavior of this man and his mouth-breathing followers. For example: https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/editorials/trump-and-his-mob-have-dishonored-america
There is of course, a continuum of complicity. We have on one end, @Commentary which prior to the election was decidedly Trump hostile, but which spent the vast majority of its (podcast, at least) time during his term explaining why the NeverTrump movement was wrong, making
heartfelt defenses of Trump's co-conspirators, and minimizing his culpability during impeachment. Moving onto @NRO , this once proud instrument of conservatism gamely attempted to remain so with its "Against Trump" issue, but then decided at least editorially, to embrace the
#NatPop line and also turn fire on the NeverTrump folks. @charlescwcooke , Kevin Williamson, and @jaynordlinger resisted the siren call of the NatPops, but many of the masthead stars couldn't. The @FreeBeacon and @dcexaminer went even further. Now all are aghast at the natural,
predicted and predictable results of that which they lent aid and comfort to. They could have stayed loyal to conservative principle and called balls and strikes. They simply could not pull it off. Now they want to reclaim that perch. It will be interesting to see if they are
permitted to by their readers. I subscribe to both @Commentary and @NRO , will continue to do so, and enjoy a good deal of what I read. I would like however, to spend less time shaking my damn head when I see, read, or hear their leading lights analyze the political scene.
