I spoke with people in the know late last night. A number of important things came out in the discussion. You're not going to like most of them, but it's better that people operate under realistic assumptions. So, in no particular order: 1/n
#invokethe25th is not going to happen. Only Secretaries approved by the Senate can vote to remove. Most of Trump's are in an acting capacity, and the others are religious nut true believers (Pompeo, DeVos, Carson). They're cool with whatever Trump does because "God's Plan". 2/n
#ImpeachTrumpNow is also very unlikely. There's 13 days left in his term, and many senior Democrats think rushing it through would end up violating due process, sparking more violence and giving the crazy base more agitprop fodder. They calculate juice isn't worth the squeeze 3/n
Situation inside the capitol worse than believed. I'm told they believe many protesters had concealed firearms, and at least one AR-15 was confiscated. Yesterday could have been very bloody. 4/n
Trump's behavior in private is worse than ever. Bizarre, unhinged, lost touch with reality, erratic were all terms I heard. They're keeping the football out of his line of sight. This, however, increases US response time in the event of a nuclear incident. 5/n
