1/6 Will the vaccine, arriving in February, save us? It is important to keep in mind that what will save us and allow us to resume our lives, and economic activity, is the IMMUNITY that will be acquired AFTER receiving the vaccine. Several essential steps need to be done:

2/6 To receive the vaccine, a WELL INFORMED public needs to be convinced it is SAFE. This will require well executed AWARNESS campaigns, and will include refuting allegations from self proclaimed vaccine experts, anti-vaxxers, conspiracy theorists, and media attention seekers.

3/6 It is clear that the keyword will be TRUST. Trust is not easily given, but earned. Only a TRANSPARENT strategy that is based on EQUITABLE and fair distribution of the vaccine will accomplish that objective. Easy and rapid access to vaccination will also be key for success.

4/6 A huge logistics effort will be required to distribute the vaccine quickly. Delays in mass vaccination will lead to a delay in acquiring immunity. This will mean more people will remain at risk of infection, and will result in a further delay in resuming economic activity.

5/6 The vaccine provided by @mophleb will be free. It will also be available for purchase from private pharmacies. If the rollout of the free vaccine is delayed, the vulnerable population will be left at risk, acting as a reservoir for the virus, and perpetuating the pandemic.

6/6 In short, vaccination will take time and effort before the desired outcome is achieved. It will take months. Between now and then, we need a clear strategy to isolate the infection and keep it under control. Otherwise, we will be going in and out of lockdowns repetitively.
