US managers, hi, good morning. huddle up.

even if things this morning are not as bad as they could have been, you need to be working from the assumption that some significant % of your employees are in crisis mode.
if you’re not used to managing a remote team through a crisis, don’t underestimate the lift here. you can’t be passive about this.

you need to purposely and intentionally communicate about what’s okay to drop today. you can’t read people’s faces and react accordingly.
give them a script for rescheduling client/vendor meetings if they need to and one for offering clients/vendors the chance
to do the same. doesn’t need to be anything overly complicated. like:
Hi X,

I just wanted to check in about our meeting today. We are assuming that folks may be feeling impacted by yesterday’s events and want to extend the offer to reschedule today’s meeting if you’d prefer - here are a few times that could work: (list some times)

make yourself available for conversations about extending deadlines, understanding available options for time off/EAP options/etc. you don’t have to be a therapist but you do have to help them get what they need to cope at work.
and yeah, you might have folks on your team who prefer to work because it’s something they can control in a moment where that is a scarce resource. let them, but also nudge them at the end of the day to say that you’re signing off and remind them to hydrate.
