There is going to be a lot written about what happened at the Capitol so I wanted to talk about what it felt like to be a DC resident last night.
I live just a few blocks from the Cap. People with weapons, nooses, and Nazi gear were in my neighborhood. In front of my home.

I got an alert about a suspected bomb three blocks from my home. "Avoid the area" they said....like I could be anywhere but home in the middle of a pandemic.
I had to walk my dog before the curfew and ran into a group of Proud Boys. I was so scared. I'm a woman, alone, after dark running into a group of juiced up, tactically dressed Nazis. How tf would you feel?
I packed an overnight bag and slept with my car key by my bed. I laid awake listening to people on the street.
This whole event feels deeply personal to me as a DC resident. You assaulted my democracy and you made me feel unsafe in my home. I don't know if I can forgive that.
