Grace Beverley highlights a passage in a book talking about how Amazon’s business operates on “extreme devaluation” & terrible labour practices - including the poor warehouse conditions mentioned at the bottom of the page.
Let’s talk about the irony of this:
Let’s talk about the irony of this:
1) Grace Beverley obscured the fact that her factories are based in China. She pretended for a good while that they were based in Portugal. She paid the “HK” (Chinese) factory workers 50% above the minimum wage - still below the minimum living wage in China.
2) Despite her trip to Dubai and elsewhere in 2020, her company has said that because of the pandemic, it is too dangerous for them to verify and photograph the working conditions in her factories in China.
In talking about pushing “white collar workers to their limits”, Grace inadvertently highlights the fact that she forced her lesser-known content creators to purchase product to use in content they create for her.
She is either unable to see the irony in this - despite going to Oxford uni and presumably being required to think critically - or is knowingly putting out an image of herself where she cares about workers’ rights in order to cover up the fact that in practice, she doesn’t care.
