Crikey, I’m off the day-to-day beat this month but the FA really need to come out with a detailed explanation of why City and Arsenal games are allowed to be called off while Bristol City had to play. A thread

How did players think it was OK to travel to Dubai while teammates, internationals and players at other clubs have not seen family & friends for months and months in some cases?
It was also massively irresponsible given there are players that are considered vulnerable, and spouses and families of players that are considered vulnerable.
How the hell can Arsenal think that just saying they have accepted the evidence players have offered to show these were business trips is enough? And how can Man City have sanctioned the trip of players in the first place, Tier 3 or no Tier 3?
I’m sorry but their business is football & by taking those trips they jeopardised their business & the work of many who work in and around the games that are now being postponed.
Any ‘business’ that could have been conducted by any of those that travelled could have been done remotely unless they literally needed to kick a ball. They knew this. Let’s not pretend this was a mistake.
They have massively misread the room. If they thought this was OK because it was a bending of the rules they were beyond stupid. They are already in an incredibly privileged position in that they can carry on and play football, work in their workplace, a position not afforded...
...to most people in the country. A position not afforded to their peers who play in Tier 3 and below, many who are key workers and have had their respite, football, taken away from them. These postponements were not forced, they have come about because of the actions...
...of a few players willing to jeopardise things while others can’t play at all. It is disrespectful to players and to clubs that face their FA Cup fixtures being determined by coin toss or their leagues being voided again despite a number being runaway leaders sure of promotion.
I think it’s hard to understate the fissures this has caused within the game. This is the first big them-and-us moment, to my memory, between fans and women footballers, between women footballers themselves, between women footballers and wider society.
It’s a first display of the entitlement and privilege we’ve become so used to in the men’s game that we’re almost numbed to it, that we assumed would come later down the line to a certain extent, but that the current crop were immune from because they started playing before...
... the game was professional and so understood the struggle that came before the privilege. Should we accept it as an inevitable part of things to come though, this divergence in outlook and priorities and responsibility? No way. Hopefully this scenario acts as a wake up call.
Never, in my mind, has the collective outrage at the actions of a group of women footballers in England been so strong.
And, at what point does the FA issue fines and say teams have forfeited games, giving points to their opponents? If players and clubs can’t be trust to act responsibly at what point does there start being more serious consequences?
