For those who think the country is surrounded by "fake" disabled people fiddling the system this one's a thread for you
About a year ago my seizures got out of control. I had to claim disability benefits as it was affecting my work hours and my income took a hit. So I made a claim. And they sent me a 32 page form for me to fill out.
This form asks you every detail of your condition and how it affects your every day life. But ofcourse you have to provide evidence. You have to include medical letters, details of medication and proof that what you are saying is genuine
After someone has picked apart your form they invite you for an assessment or what I like to call an interrogation (roughly 1 to 2 months later.) They carry out physical and mental exams on you. They ask you every question again from the form to check your answers match
My assessment was meant to be 2 hours but I was there for 4. At one point I said I'd installed a shower handle incase I had a seizure and she asked where I'd bought it, what make it what and if I had the receipt???
Once this assessment has taken place the report gets sent off to be reviewed by another medical expert, again to check what you're saying adds up. You'd have to be a pretty good actress with some good fraud documents to make it to this point
After 12 weeks from your initial claim you find out whether you have been 'successful.' You don't just ring up and say I want disability benefits and they hand them over like some people believe? You can also work if your benefits just cover care costs
This means disabled people can also contribute to paying tax and aren't just stealing yours like you believe. But honestly if you want to fill out a 30 page form and be interrogated for 4 hours for ÂŁ65 a week be my guest
The next time you see Barry down the street taking out his bin and think he should be at work, maybe you should leave it to the 3 medical experts that examined every element of his life to decide 
Also telling someone they are lucky to get money.. when it's for a disability... is so just so crazy dumb
